Remaining Positive as an Amputee

My name is James Lea, and I am a dodeca-amputee and a born again Christian. I know firsthand the challenges that come with losing limbs, but I also know the immense power of faith in Jesus Christ to help us remain positive and overcome those challenges.

As an amputee, it can be easy to feel defeated, to feel like life is over and that there is nothing left to hope for. But I am here to tell you that with Jesus, there is always hope. In fact, Jesus tells us in John 16:33, “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” We can take comfort in the fact that even in the midst of our struggles, Jesus has already won the victory.

When we focus on Jesus, our perspective changes. Instead of focusing on what we’ve lost, we can focus on what we’ve gained through faith in Him. Romans 8:18 says, “I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.” No matter how difficult our circumstances may be, we have the promise of eternal life with Jesus, and that is something that cannot be taken away.

Furthermore, when we focus on Jesus, we can experience His peace, even in the midst of turmoil. Philippians 4:6-7 says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” This peace is available to us as believers, even when the world around us is in chaos.

So how do we remain focused on Jesus in the midst of our struggles as amputees? First, we must make a conscious choice to turn to Him in prayer and Bible reading every day. When we spend time with Jesus, our relationship with Him grows stronger, and we are better equipped to face whatever challenges come our way.

Second, we must stay connected to other believers who can encourage and support us. Hebrews 10:24-25 says, “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” When we surround ourselves with fellow believers, we can be uplifted and strengthened by their faith.

Lastly, we must choose to focus on the positive, even in the midst of difficult circumstances. Philippians 4:8 says, “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” When we intentionally focus on the good, our perspective changes, and we can find joy even in the midst of our struggles.

In conclusion, remaining positive as an amputee is not always easy, but with faith in Jesus Christ, it is possible. I encourage you to make the choice to follow Him, to spend time with Him every day, and to surround yourself with other believers. Remember that in Him, we have hope, peace, and the promise of eternal life. If you have not yet made the choice to follow Jesus, I invite you to consider Him today. He loves you, and He is waiting for you with open arms.
